Carbon Sight is operated by Chain Reaction Labs, Inc. ("Carbon Sight," "we," "us," or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the Carbon Sight website and app (the "Service"), how we use it, and the choices you have. We built Carbon Sight on transparent, open methodology, and we take the same approach to your privacy: we collect as little as possible and tell you exactly what we do with it.
Information we collect
- Photos and images you scan. When you point your camera at a product or upload an image, that image is sent to our carbon-scoring engine and our AI vision provider so we can identify the product and estimate its carbon footprint. Images are processed to produce your score and are not used to build advertising profiles or sold to anyone.
- Subscription and purchase information. If you subscribe or purchase a certificate, your payment is processed by Apple (in-app purchases on iOS) or Stripe (on the web). We receive confirmation that a purchase or subscription is active and which tier you hold. We never receive or store your full card number.
- Business/certification details you provide. If you request a product certification, we collect the product information and any documentation you choose to submit for the assessment.
- Basic usage and device data. We may collect limited technical information such as app/browser version, device type, diagnostic logs, and non-identifying usage counts to keep the Service working and improve it.
We do not require your government ID or financial account numbers to use the Service.
How we use your information
- To identify products and generate the carbon scores and certificates you request.
- To provide, maintain, and secure the Service and your subscription or certification.
- To diagnose problems, prevent abuse, and improve accuracy and performance.
- To respond to your inquiries and support requests.
Service providers we share data with
We rely on a small number of trusted providers and share only what each needs to do its job:
- Apple — processes in-app subscription payments on iOS.
- Stripe — processes payments on the web.
- RevenueCat — manages subscription entitlements on iOS.
- Anthropic (Claude) — provides the AI vision and reasoning that identifies products from your images.
- Cloudflare — hosts the Service and its data.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers.
Data retention
We keep information only as long as needed to provide the Service and to meet legal, accounting, or reporting requirements. Scanned images are used to generate your result and are not retained for marketing or profiling.
Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete information associated with you, and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information (we do neither). To exercise any right, contact us at the address below. To cancel a subscription, see our Terms of Use. On iOS, subscriptions are managed in Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.
Children's privacy
Carbon Sight is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect information in transit and at rest. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your data and to limit what we collect in the first place.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above.
